I would have never bothered to review this software, has it not been for this: How not to assert trademark infringement

I just took a look at their 'geek in a box' product, how lame can you be?  This product doesn't do anything that you can't do without it.  It's just a bad UI interface to various things in windows.  The fact that they spammed it to every download service on the net speaks ill of their intentions.

So I downloaded both the Vista and XP  free trial versions and took a whirl for the heck of it.

Interesting that neither their application nor the installer bothers to check what version of Windows you are running (at least in the supposed 'Vista' version).  The vista version installed on my XP VMWare session without a complaint, program even runs although all the button text is black and the button backgrounds are black... kinda useless.

That's very bad from a company that claims to cater toward beginners and 'intermediate' users.  They didn't even protect against a very common problem.

So I reset to a snapshot (didn't test the uninstaller, didn't bother) and installed the XP version, and fire it up.

Just as I expected, lame... to the point of pathetic.  No wonder they don't have any high res pictures.. the UI is a joke.

Buttons for such 'complex' tasks like  'Set Desktop Background', "Get On Internet" "Add Downloaded Fonts" "Set Up Your Account" many of which don't even make sense.  "Add Downloaded Fonts" just opens a really poorly designed windows, tells you to click on a button and then drop the font file 'in the folder'.  When you click the button it just pops up Fonts folder... whooop de do.

Written using .NET and they had to make a special version for Vista vs. XP?  Kinda defeats the purpose of using managed code.

This program is a joke, and the joke is on everyone that purchased it. I would recommend that if you are considering this software, you should instead purchase one of the many books on Windows.  The 'For Dummies' series seems to be very popular, as well as the idiots guide.  Read those and you'll not need any further help.
